VA Palo Alto Simulation Center Manager/Operator

The Simulation Center at VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) is recruiting a new simulation center manager. The center located within the VA Palo Alto Medical Center and jointly run with the Stanford University School of Medicine is world-renown for mannequin-based patient simulation. The simulation center manager will manage the facility on a day-to-day basis. Job responsibilities will include:

* Scheduling, procurement, and coordination with VAPAHCS services (e.g. environmental management)
* Managing documents, files, video tapes, and updates to the Simulation Center website
* Preparing simulation, clinical, and audiovisual systems for upcoming courses per standardized protocols
* Assisting faculty to conduct courses or exercises, including operating simulation systems under the direction of the instructor(s)
* Conducting simple routine maintenance and simple troubleshooting of Simulation Center equipment
* Conducting tours of the Simulation Center for visiting professionals or simulation staff

QUALIFICATIONS: This unique opportunity will require many different kinds of skills and knowledge, including: clinical, managerial, computer & technological. Applicants should have a four-year college degree or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants with an Engineering degree. Appropriate candidates should therefore have a background in one or more of the following: health-care including allied health professions; computer science or engineering; audio or video production; professional education. Professional or personal experience in more than one of these areas would be helpful, with the position requiring at least 0-1 year of job-related experience. Preference will be given to applicants with several years of professional experience, anywhere between 2-7 years. Appropriate on the job training will be provided by experts within the Simulation Center.

Also, technical or business knowledge are required such as:
* Knowledge of the operation and troubleshooting of mannequin-based simulation devices and of clinical equipment used in simulation.
* Knowledge of automatic data processing (ADP) equipment, systems
and applications.
* Knowledge of VA administrative procedures and practices.
* Skill to troubleshoot and investigate difficult operation problems with medical, simulator, computer, and audiovisual equipment.
* Knowledge in the use of standard office software and procedures for scheduling, procurement and operations.
* Knowledge to prepare needs analysis and to develop device, equipment and systems specifications and to assist in equipment selection and application.
